Help Ink is a collaborative project, using the sale of premium and exclusive art to help charities in an exciting way. Recently, I was asked to help by creating a custom poster illustration. It was an honor to be asked. There are some incredible artists and great work available on the site.
I decided to use a quote from Fred Rogers as my theme. The quote – “Life is for Service” and he pretty much lived that everyday. Such an amazing man, and this year I was able to take my daughter to the Children’s Museum in Pittsburgh. I was able to show her some of the characters and sets behind Mr Roger’s Neighborhood. The characters on the piece I did were inspired by some of the puppets from the show, not directly, but the personalities are there. The concept of the ladder is that you’re helping someone UP. I wanted the characters to have a camaraderie, looking at each other as they’re passing by. The poster is kind of a message to kids and adults, that’s why I chose approachable animals working toward a common goal.
Here is kind of the process the piece followed, from start to finish.
